iPhones could be sold with Activation Lock automatically enabled

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), implemented the system Activation Lock to the insistence of the American authorities who asked for better methods to secure stolen smartphones, and yesterday I told you that 78% of Americans already use this function. Well, the success of the program motivates the American authorities to go further, they are now lobbying for the marketing of iPhones with Activation Lock active. Basically, iDevices would automatically activate the Activation Lock system when a user registers with Apple IDhis, he then having the possibility to deactivate it.

Apple should be commended for leading the way and making efforts to safeguard their customers, but it is still too early to tell how effective their solution will be. Until Activation Lock is fully opted-out, it appears many iPhone owners will not have the solution enabled. This leaves iPhone users at risk as thieves cannot distinguish between those devices that have the feature enabled and those that do not.

The idea of the US authorities, specifically in San Francisco, is to increase the level of protection for users who should no longer have to worry if they lose an iPhone, thieves thinking several times before stealing it. Considering that in the USA iDevices represent the largest part of thefts of mobile terminals, the move is as logical as possible, but it is unlikely that Apple will implement it. Unfortunately for the authorities, manufacturers and operators do not agree with the activation of such functions natively, so it is not known if Apple will again be "a pioneer" in this field.
