Apple acquires the developer company of the fastest application designed to record pictures using our iDevices

During the last night appeared the first information that suggests that Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), would have acquired SnappyLabs, the company that created the application SnappyCam. I have talked to you several times about this title and told you that through it we can record pictures with up to 30 frames per second, the pictures being recorded in high resolution. The company SnappyLabs had only one employee, its founder, and although Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), managed to acquire it, it seems that several of its competitors were interested in doing the same.

First we studied the fast discrete cosine transform (DCT) algorithms...We then extended some of that research to create a new algorithm that's a good fit for the ARM NEON SIMD co-processor instruction set architecture. The final implementation comprises nearly 10,000 lines of hand-tuned assembly code, and over 20,000 lines of low-level C code. (In comparison, the SnappyCam app comprises almost 50,000 lines of Objective C code.)

Presented as the world's fastest application for recording photos, SnappyCam enjoyed moderate success in App Store, succeeding several times to occupy the first position in some of the important App Stores around the world. At the moment, the application is no longer available for purchase, Apple withdrawing it from its own store, including from iTunes in the Cloud. The acquisition of this company will require the implementation of its technologies in iOS, but it will take a long time until this happens.

UPDATED: Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), confirmed indirectly the acquisition of the company through an answer given to an American publication.

Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.
