Orange Romania publishes the financial results for 2013:

  • Orange has consolidated its leading position on the telecommunications market
  • more and more Romanians are discovering the digital world with the help of smartphones

Bucharest, March 6, 2014. The Orange Group announces today its financial results for 2013.

The revenues recorded by Orange Romania in the fourth quarter of 2013 were 244 million euros. For 2013, the company's revenues totaled 934 million euros, increasing by 1,8% compared to the revenues recorded in 2012, on a comparable basis.

On December 31, 2013, Orange had 10.436.000 customers and thus consolidates its position as the leader of the telecommunications market in Romania. More and more customers are choosing the benefits offered by subscriptions, confirming the trend observed in the previous quarter.

Mobile internet consumption continued to evolve in 2013 and saw significant growth from quarter to quarter. Thus, mobile Internet traffic increased by 47% in the fourth quarter of 2013 compared to the same period last year and by 51% in 2013 compared to 2012. This growth was supported by continuous investments in network development, made with the aim to provide the best voice and data services. In 2013, Orange completed the rural network modernization program, started the urban network and expanded 4G coverage throughout the capital. Also, the company prepared for the expansion of the 4G network starting from April 6, 2014, when the new frequencies acquired in 2012 will be able to be used.

Smartphone sales doubled in 2013 compared to 2012, and in December 2013 more than half of all phones sold were smartphones. These performances are directly reflected in the number of downloads and updates of Orange applications, which increased by 300% in 2013 compared to 2012. Another factor that influenced this growth is the inclusion of some of the applications in subscriptions. The most used proprietary applications are My Account, Orange Cloud, Orange TV Go and Fotbal Info.

At the same time, a large part of customers visit the Orange portal on mobile, the most accessed site for mobile phones in Romania in terms of the number of visits, according to sati.ro.

"2013 was the year in which Orange made the biggest investments since the beginning of the economic crisis. Thus, the value of our investments in Romania increased in 2013 by more than 30% compared to 2009. We continue to expect 2014 to be another dynamic year and we are confident that our strategy, based on the best experience offered to customers, the development of 4G and TV services will give results and we will continue to be the first choice of Romanians." said Jean-François Fallacher, CEO of Orange Romania.
