NETOPIA mobilPay: Romanians spent over 20 million euros on phones and tablets in 2013

Bucharest, March 6, 2014: At the end of 2013, the total value of purchases made by Romanians using mobile devices amounted to 20,6 million euros, of which 13,8 million euros were made through online payments made on phones and tablets, and 6,8 .40 million euros through SMS transactions. About XNUMX% of all these payments were processed by NETOPIA mobilPay, positioning the company as the most important mobile commerce processor in Romania.

Of the total online card payments processed by the company last year, 6%, worth 4,6 million euros, were made from smartphones and tablets. In terms of transactions processed via phone micropayments (SMS), they amounted to a value of 3,4 million euros last year, about half of the total market.

"2013 was the year of m-commerce all over the world, and Romania was no exception. Of course, we still cannot speak of a volume similar to that of the United States or Western Europe, where online payments from phones and tablets have become natural, but more and more Romanians have begun to understand and prefer this simple, safe payment method and more handy than any other," said Antonio Eram, CEO and founder of NETOPIA mobilPay.

For this year, company representatives estimate the doubling of the average rate, to more than 12%, of purchases from mobile devices in the total online card payment market.

"Another big plus, both for us, but primarily for smartphone or tablet users, is the mobilPay MasterCard Mobile application, launched in partnership with MasterCard Romania. This application, which we are constantly improving, has extraordinary dynamics, with transactions made through it doubling every three months, whether it is paying phone bills, loading cards or purchasing products from partner merchants" , concluded Antonio Eram.

Also in 2014, the mobilPay MasterCard Mobile application will integrate a new payment method, intended for offline customers.
