Two hackers use Find My iPhone to blackmail owners of iDevices in Australia, they are arrested

Just a few weeks ago I told you that iDevice owners in Australia are being blackmailed by a group of hackers who lock their terminals via iOS 7 Activation Lock and asks them for money to unlock. Two hackers were behind this blackmail made in Australia, they demanded between $50 and $100 to unlock the users' terminals.

The hackers - aged 17 and 23 - were detained in the course of "operational activities" by the Russian Interior Ministry, Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs said. They are both residents of the Southern Administrative District of Moscow and one has already been tried before, it said.

The two hackers were originally from Russia and it seems that they have already been arrested by the Russian authorities, but for now it is not known if Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), cooperated in the investigation or not. The two hackers obtained the login data of Apple ID-s by type attacks Phishing and with full access to these accounts, they started blocking the terminals to get money from the users.

The two hackers are residents of the Russian capital, the first being 17 years old and the other 23, one being already tried in Russia for similar acts. Although a large number of users were affected by this problem, it seems that the Russian authorities made efforts to solve it extremely quickly, everything being stopped in just over a week.
