The European Commission accuses Apple of not protecting iDevice owners against deceptive applications

in-app purchase

The European Commission asked the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),, and those from Google, to implement protective measures for users deceived by applications that contain in-app purchases, companies being obliged to make public the true price of the applications from the very beginning. Although the requirement is not new, The European Commission now claims that Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), did not act in any way to fulfill their demands, asking for immediate measures to rectify the problem.

Regrettably, no concrete and immediate solutions have been made by Apple to date to address the concerns linked in particular to payment authorization. Apple has proposed to address those concerns. However, no firm commitment and no timing have been provided for the implementation of such possible future changes.

Responding to the charges European Commission, company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), claims that it has implemented more security measures than other companies, and in iOS 8 will implement the system Family Sharing which will allow parents to manually authorize every purchase that the children want to make. Apple claims that it is the only company that has thought of such advanced control measures for purchases, other companies being far from offering such functionality.

These controls go far beyond the features of others in the industry. But we are always working to strengthen the protections we have in place, and we're adding great new features with iOS 8, such as Ask to Buy, giving parents even more control over what their kids can buy on the App Store.

Although even Google has not yet made any changes for Google Play in order to solve the problems, the company announced that it will make changes in September, just as Apple will do by launching iOS 8. Practically, both companies will comply with the wishes of the European Commission by launching iOS 8 and a new version of the Android, but it will take until they are available.
