Tim Cook admits he's gay, talks about the impact it's had on his life

Tim Cook is gay, this was known by everyone who follows the evolution of the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), and the news related to it, but only today we have a first official admission from the man chosen to lead Apple in the absence of Steve Jobs. In a long essay published on the website of an American publication, the current CEO of the Apple company talks about the impact his sexual orientation had on his life, but also about the way he was treated by Apple.

Being gay has given me a deeper understanding of what it means to be in the minority and provided a window into the challenges that people in other minority groups deal with every day. It's made me more empathetic, which has led to a richer life. It's been tough and uncomfortable at times, but it has given me the confidence to be myself, to follow my own path, and to rise above adversity and bigotry. It's also given me the skin of a rhinoceros, which comes in handy when you're the CEO of Apple.

Having a sexual orientation that is not widely accepted around the world, Tim Cook claims that throughout his life he has learned to ignore unjustified criticism, to appreciate the world around him, to make sure that minorities are not discriminated against at Apple and not only that. The US has changed tremendously over its lifetime, but there are plenty of places where its sexual orientation is frowned upon, but this essay is sure to raise quite a few eyebrows.
