Apple restricts the possibility to request a refund on applications

Apple confirmation of money back applications

Last year Apple announced that it will return the money to users who bought an application in 14 days but they are not satisfied with its functionality, the company complying with European legislation. Last week it was demonstrated that Apple's new policy leaves room for abuse, users can download free applications from the App Store by purchasing and requesting a refund.

In order to prevent abuses of its new policy, the Apple company has introduced an alert that tells users that they can no longer request a refund if they download the application after purchase. Practically, when the user compares the application without downloading it, he can ask for a refund of the money spent, but if he downloads the application after the purchase in 14 days, he will no longer be able to ask for a refund.

I acknowledge that if I download this app within fourteen days of tapping 'Buy', I will no longer be eligible to cancel this purchase.

Apple prevents the free download of paid applications from the App Store

The above message was received by a user who bought applications worth several tens of pounds and requested the return of the money for a good part of them, receiving the money back. Seeing that the user abuses the system, the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), it started to display the message from the image above, informing him that if he bought an application and downloads it, he will not get his money back.

Apple mentions this provision in its new terms and conditions for the use of the App Store, and this means that the applications purchased from the App Store will not be automatically downloaded to the terminals. In this idea, a user will not be able to figure out if the application is suitable for him or not only from the description, but the same thing was available to him in the past, so he will not have any benefit.

Exception to the right of cancellation: You cannot cancel your order for the supply of digital content if the delivery has started upon your request and acknowledgment that you thereby lose your cancellation right.

Considering that the procedure applies only to those who abuse the system, it is clear that a user who asks for the return of the money for the first time, or does not abuse the system, will not see this message. The problem with the message is that it contravenes European legislation because the user buys the product but does not actually have the opportunity to test it to see if it is useful or not.

The simple description of a product can be misleading and in this idea Apple could even be sued and fined in various countries if it continues to impose this rule, but it remains to be seen who will do it.
