TAG Heuer launches its first smartwatch to compete with the Apple Watch

Tag Heuer Carrera

TAG Heuer is the first major Swiss watch manufacturer to announce its serious intentions to compete with Apple Watch, so that during this day it will present a smartwatch based on the Carrera watch, one of its most popular products. The Swiss would have entered into a collaboration with Intel in order to be able to launch their smartwatch on the market, which could work based on Android Wear, other options not being available considering that TAG Heuer does not have its own operating system for such products .

TAG Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver, stated that the company's future smartwatch will give users the impression that they are wearing a normal watch, so we probably won't be talking about a device with a look or functionality similar to a traditional smart watch. Specifically, TAG Heuer could decide not to use a touch screen for their watch, with normal dials whose hands move according to information taken from an iPhone application.

Tag Heuer plans to unveil a smartwatch on Thursday among a wave of partnerships expected at the world's biggest watch fair this week as luxury watchmakers fight back against Apple. The Swiss watch brand, the biggest at French luxury group LVMH, will announce it is teaming up with US chip maker Intel Corp to create a digital version of one of its best-selling models, industry sources have said.

Although the watch is to be presented today by the Swiss from TAG Heuer, the official launch could only take place in September of this year, many months away from the appearance of the Apple Watch. That being said, the Swiss are serious about competing with the Apple Watch, but it remains to be seen if their products will be good enough to affect Apple's product sales.
