Apple prohibits the rebroadcast of WWDC 2015 by various entities

Other CONFWWDC 2015 will be transmitted directly by the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), for the whole world and here we are talking about videos published daily for all sessions dedicated to application developers. Because only 5000 people can get to Moscone Center West at WWDC 2015, Apple decided to broadcast the opening conference live, with iOS 9 presentation, but to publish daily recordings of its sessions.

Considering that places are limited, AltConf was born in San Francisco, a separate gathering of application developers who watch the WWDC 2015 opening keynote together and discuss it. AltConf asks developers for 300 dollars to participate in the rebroadcast in some theaters in San Francisco, offering them other facilities for this money, and Apple doesn't seem to be that happy about this business.

In this idea, the Apple company ordered the legal team to send a notification to AltConf representatives asking them not to broadcast the opening conference of WWDC 2015, nor the daily recordings of the sessions. The main part of the notice attacks the fact that AltConf is asking for $300 to rebroadcast something that is broadcast for free, Apple being unhappy with AltConf's small business.

This firm represents Apple Inc. ("Apple") in certain matters. Apple has recently learned that AltConf 2015 (“AltConf”) is promoting its intent to stream live content from Apple's WWDC events, including the Keynote address, and is charging $300 for guaranteed spots in the viewing area for the live streams. Publicly streaming Apple's WWDC content in the manner in which AltConf proposes would violate Apple's copyright rights in the content. This is particularly the case where AltConf proposes to offer the content for profit. Therefore, Apple requests that you refrain from publicly streaming the WWDC addresses.

However, that money is not the main problem of the Apple company, but the control of the message that reaches its developers through the stream, the PR team fearing that it could be distorted at AltConf. Apple's lawyers claim that all the information provided by Apple has been meticulously organized so that it has a certain meaning, and their retransmission could be done in a way that could distort the subject of the message.

In this idea, Apple reserves the right to control the way its content is distributed, so it forbids those from AltConf to rebroadcast the WWDC 2015 stream, threatening them with legal action. Those from AltConf reacted and announced that they will not rebroadcast the live stream of WWDC 2015 on Monday, so developers will have to view everything under different conditions.

Usual, iDevice.ro will keep you up to date with everything that happens during WWDC 2015 and here you will be able to find out all the news about iOS 9 and OS X 10.11, so don't forget to come back on June 8 to discover them. In the meantime you can use the iDevice.ro application to receive push notifications to find out the latest news from the Apple world.

Apple appreciates that Hero ticket holders are not guaranteed seating in the WWDC viewing theater and further appreciates the enthusiasm and ingenuity of the organizers and the attendees of AltConf. Nevertheless, Apple must protect its intellectual property, including its right to publicly perform its copyrighted content. Consequently, Apple continues to demand that AltConf cancel the planned streaming of the WWDC addresses and sessions

Each element of Apple's public messaging is carefully planned and meticulously executed. Apple expends significant resources in designing and implementing all of its public-facing messages and this attention to detail has become synonymous with Apple and has contributed immeasurably to the value of Apple's brand and reputation. Allowing unaffiliated third parties to publicly perform its content could undermine the efforts – and resources – that Apple expends in ensuring that each public message originating from Apple is of the highest quality and is uniform in style. AltConf's threatened streaming of Apple's content would strip Apple of exclusive control over one of the most anticipated events of the year, and could deprive Apple of potential revenue generated from its exclusive rights.
