Here is the first Range Rover driven with an iPhone (Video)

iPhone controlled Range RoverUn Range Rover driven with an iPhone it may seem crazy to many people, but for the British everything is part of a project to implement a technology that allows controlling their cars with smartphones.

In the video clip below you can see a demonstration of this technology and the first Range Rover driven with an iPhone, an application installed in the Apple smartphone offering the possibility to control the acceleration, brake and steering wheel of the British SUV.

Called Multi-Point Turn, the system will be implemented in future Range Rover models, it will only work in situations where the driver has to maneuver the car from outside the passenger compartment, the maximum driving speed in these conditions being approximately 7 KM/h.

In the clip, the people from Land Rover demonstrate the situations in which their system could prove to be useful and we talk about the moments when the driver is driving on bumpy terrain or when he can no longer enter the car because of a person who has parked too far close to him

Land Rover is researching a new remote control technology that represents a stepping stone towards the fully autonomous car. It could be used by the driver to maneuver their car out of difficult situations safely or negotiate challenging terrain, whilst walking alongside the car at a maximum speed of 4mph. The Multi-Point Turn Range Rover Sport is also capable of autonomously maneuvering through 180 degrees, with the system taking over gear selection, steering, braking and acceleration.

Although the system may seem useless, in Bucharest I would be happy to have it, but I am sure that in many other crowded cities around the world many drivers would be happy to have something like this at hand, especially a system that allow the car to get out of narrow spaces by itself.

What do you think about this system and how useful do you think it would be?
