Apple is discussing with mobile operators the launch of e-SIM for the iPhone

Apple SIMApple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), discuss with the mobile operators the launch e-SIM for iPhone, this over half a year away from the launch Apple SIM for iPad, without even as much success as those from Cupertino would have liked.

e-SIM card which is talked about in a series of information published today is a embedded SIM, that is, a universal card that would allow users to benefit from the offers of mobile operators without inserting a normal SIM into the iPhone.

e-SIM it will not be accessible to users, as it is integrated into iPhone terminals, users only having a list of operators compatible with this system and their offers, they can only choose one of them or connect to their own subscription.

The idea of e-SIM it is not only supported by the Apple company, Samsung representatives are also part of the group that discusses their implementation with mobile operators, so this universal card has a very high chance of being implemented in smartphones.

To become a standard for iPhone and Android, e-SIM it needs the support of many smartphone manufacturers, and with Apple and Samsung in the foreground, I don't think there will be any manufacturers who don't support the idea, especially since it would allow the elimination of the SIM port in a few years.

Apple and Samsung are currently discussing e-SIM with AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, Orange, Etisalat, Hutchison Whampoa and Telefónica, so the largest mobile phone groups on the planet, but probably those in Asia will not be excluded either .

Discussions about e-SIM are at an early stage at the moment and this is because the standard for this type of card has not been finalized, the plans being that in 2016 everything will be officially launched and maybe implemented in the first smartphones, including iPhone.

However, you should not think that e-SIM will completely replace mobile phone cards at first, because many operators will not have support for it, so the standard will work in parallel with that for SIM cards, at least in the coming years.

What do you think about e-SIM?
