iPad registers the lowest market share in recent years

iPad market shareTablet sales have been falling for several fiscal quarters continuously, and in Q2 2015 things did not improve, sales of this type of mobile terminal falling by 8% or approximately 3.3 million units globally.

The decrease in sales affected only the Apple and Samsung companies, in their case the decreases were 17.9% and 12% respectively, the market shares of their products falling to 24.5% in the case of iPad tablets and 17% in the case of Samsung tablets, for Apple this being the lowest market share in recent years.

Although Samsung and Apple have recorded serious decreases in their market shares, the same cannot be said for those from Lenovo or Huawei, these two companies registering 246.6% in the case of the first manufacturer and 103.6% in the case of the second manufacturer , these being the biggest increases reported for important producers.

The worldwide tablet market declined -7.0% year over year in the second quarter of 2015 (2Q15) with shipments totaling 44.7 million units according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker. Marked by little hardware innovation and limited vendor portfolio updates, the market also declined -3.9% compared to the first quarter of 2015.

Apart from the top 5 tablet manufacturers, the rest of the less important manufacturers recorded a total decrease of 9.3% in tablet sales in the last 3 months, the increases recorded by Huawei and Lenovo being too small to cover the lack of interest at the global level.

Although more than a year ago tablets were highly sought after by users around the world, now phablets have taken this place in their preferences and it seems that things will not change soon, despite the efforts made by Apple or Samsung to increase sales.
