BCR offers for the first time the use of Touch ID for internet banking and mobile banking

Touch ID was launched by Apple together with the iPhone 5S in 2013 and US banks did not wait too long to provide support for the system, and now we are happily witnessing the implementation of support for the system including in our country, and I think that it will only be the beginning.

BCR claims that its applications for mobile terminals have generated 200.000 downloads since their launch and until now, 60.000 of which were generated only in the first half of 2015, so the interest in them is growing.

Although the compatibility of eTokenBCR with Touch ID is promoted mainly with iPhone terminals, in reality the application for iPad can also use a fingerprint to allow you to access the 24 banking portal of BCR bank, so it is not absolutely necessary to have an iPhone to benefit from the new facility.

In order to be able to benefit from the use of Touch ID for logging in via eTokenBCR in Touch 24 Banking BCR and the 24 banking web portal, you will have to visit a BCR unit and ask to activate the system, the bank requiring the account holder to go in person to a representative for activation.

Logging in with Touch ID in the BCR and 24 banking applications can:

Having said that, here we see the first steps taken towards the adoption of safer technologies for bank applications in Romania and I can only praise the initiative of those from BCR, waiting for other banks to take similar steps, including allowing mobile payments through Apple Pay future.

From everything I told you above, the terminals that have jailbreak are an exception, the eTokenBCR application refusing to work with jailbroken terminals.

Bucharest, September 23, 2015 - Banca Comercială Română (BCR) launches, for the first time on the Romanian market, especially for its customers, authentication functionality for BCR internet banking and mobile banking solutions through the eToken application using the option touch ID, exclusively for Apple terminals.

BCR customers with an iPhone 5S (or newer) will be able to access, free, the mobile banking application (www.bcr.ro/mobilebanking) in just a few seconds, using fingerprint recognition technology. Thus, customers no longer have to remember complicated passwords and can access their accounts, in just a few seconds, from their mobile, in a fast and secure way.

BCR has over 700.000 customers enrolled in 24 Banking services, and in the last year, the number of those using the mobile banking service has doubled, a fact that is also reflected in the number of over 60,000 downloads of the mobile banking application in the first semester of 2015. Also, the number of invoices paid by BCR customers through mobile banking registered an increase of almost 200% compared to 2014.

Since the beginning of 2015, BCR has developed and improved a good part of the services and products in the digital area.  

"We integrated Touch 24 Banking with eToken (the smartphone app that replaces the classic token), so our customers can quickly log into their 24 Banking account directly with the eToken, without closing or opening other apps." stated Cristian Mustață, Head of Digital Strategy department, BCR.

Starting in June, BCR offers its customers the option to save personal templates directly from the Touch 24 Banking app and the BCR credit card debt repayment template, using only the static password.
