Apple collaborates with Synaptics for iPhone 7

Apple orders Synaptics drivers for iPhone 7Apple has ordered display drivers from Synaptics iPhone 7, those from Cupertino being obliged to collaborate with Synaptics after the latter company bought Renesas SP Drivers last year.

Those from Renesas SP Drivers were the suppliers of drivers for iPhone terminal screens, but starting from September 2014 it became a subsidiary of Synaptics, and now it seems to have been completely absorbed as a division of Synaptics.

Apple would have already ordered from Synaptics the drivers to be used in the screen iPhone 7, and this indicates that its engineers have so far failed to develop the necessary software for the screen to be used in the future iPhone terminal.

Although they collaborate with Apple, those from Synaptics provide drivers for the screens of HTC, Samsung, Google, Motorola, etc. terminals, so that in this situation those from Cupertino do not have the exclusivity they are normally used to when it comes to their terminals iPhone.

Apple places driver IC orders for 2016 iPhone models with Synaptics Cage Chao, Taipei; Jessie Shen, DIGITIMES [Thursday 5 November 2015]. Apple has placed LCD driver IC orders for its 2016 series of iPhones with Synaptics, indicating its in-house developed touch and display driver integration (TDDI) single-chip solutions will not be ready, according to industry sources.

After the acquisition of Renesas, the people from Synaptics had problems in maintaining the orders of the Apple company, but since the engineers from Cupertino can't do it alone, the iPhone 7 will use products from the Synaptics company and this will not affect our experience.

In the past, Apple hired Renesas engineers for its team dedicated to the development of drivers for iDevice screens, but the team is currently not mature enough to provide solutions for the Cupertino mobile terminals alone.
