In 2015, LG sold fewer smartphones than Apple in 3 months

LG is one of the most famous smartphone manufacturers on the whole planet and although a few years ago it was fighting with Nokia, Samsung or Apple for supremacy in this market, at the moment the company cannot even cover its losses in the mobile division.

In the whole year 2015, LG sold 59.7 million smartphones, with 1.5 million units less than Apple in Q1 2015, and this says a lot about how different the evolution of the two companies is in recent years when it comes to the sale of these mobile terminals.

LG is one of the smartphone manufacturers that loses money by launching mobile terminals on the market, but in Q4 2015 the mobile division had smaller losses than in the same period last year, so things could turn around for those of at LG.

Apple and Samsung are the only smartphone manufacturers that make a profit from the sale of mobile terminals, Apple collecting around 90% of all profit, Samsung remaining with the rest, the other mobile terminal manufacturers registering only losses from the sale of these devices.

LG sold 59.7 million units of smartphones last year, rising slightly from 59.1 million units posted in 2014. South Korean tech giant LG Electronics Inc. said Tuesday its net loss narrowed in the fourth quarter from a year earlier on strong sales of premium TVs and home appliances, despite a poor performance from its smartphone business.

Unfortunately, the smartphone market has more and more companies that do not make money from the sale of these mobile terminals, and the world needs strong manufacturers to compete with Apple and Samsung, otherwise innovation will die.
