How to identify a faulty Apple adapter to ask for a replacement

Yesterday I told you that they were sold in Europe defective Apple adapters that can electrocute people, the American company taking the decision to initiate a replacement program for these defective adapters, users being able to ask for their exchange with new ones free of charge.

The Apple company describes the problem very simply, precisely all charging adapters sold in Europe have a problem with the contact pins which they can break trying to unplug the charger, the user may be electrocuted In procces.

Apart from Europe, the problem was also discovered in charger adapters sold in Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Argentina and Brazil, all those who bought iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Macs from these countries benefiting from the free replacement of the adapter.

All adapters sold in the respective countries and regions from 2003 until 2015 benefit from free replacement from the Apple company, so users must identify if the adapter is part of the defective group and ask for its immediate replacement.

Defective Apple adapter identification

identify faulty redesigned Apple adapter

Even if you are sure that you bought an Apple product from Europe, or the other regions above, between 2003 and 2015, to be able to identify a faulty Apple adapter you will have to look inside it to see if there is a marking of numbers, a marking of letters or no marking.

Compare your adapter with the ones in the images below. An affected wall outlet adapter has either 4 or 5 characters or no character displayed vertically in the inner slot where it attaches to the Apple power adapter. The redesigned adapters have a 3-letter regional code (EUR, KOR, AUS, ARG or BRA) in that slot.

If inside your adapter there is a marking with numbers or there is no marking, then you have detected a faulty Apple adapter, but if there is a mark with letters, like on the right side of the image above, then you have one redesigned adapter which will not run out of pins in the socket and cannot electrocute you.

In this second image you have various types of pins of some defective Apple adapters, and based on them you can identify an accessory with problems, so you have everything you need at hand to know if you need to ask for a replacement or not.

How and to whom you ask for the replacement

Replacing a faulty Apple adapter it can be done at one authorized Apple service based on nof the serial shoulder of the product with which it was purchased that adapter, so you will need to know it before visiting an authorized Apple service.

Have the adapters replaced at your local Apple Authorized Service Provider. Make sure you have the serial number of your Mac, iPad, iPhone, or iPod handy, as the replacement process involves verifying it. Finding a device's serial number is easy.

I told you a few months ago which are Apple Authorized Service Providers from Romania and you can find the serial number of the terminal in Settings > General > About > Serial Number, Settings > General > Information > Serial number, on Mac it is available in the System Preferences menu.

If you have other questions, I'm waiting for them in the comments.
