Samsung announced the first SSD with 16 TB of storage space

Samsung announced during this day the launch of a SSD with 16 TB of storage space, this being the product of its kind with the largest storage space offered by any PC component manufacturer at the moment.

The intention to bring this to the market Samsung SSD with 16 TB storage space it was announced last year by the Koreans, but it became official only now, using a SAS interface, so it is not dedicated to anyone.

To be able to offer 16 TB of storage space in an SSD, those from Samsung they combined 512 memory chips of 256 Gb each, they being placed in 16 layers that form packages of 512 GB each, 32 such packages existing in the SSD.

Average read and write speeds will vary between 200,000 and 32,000 IOPS, while sequential read and write speeds reach up to 1.2 GB, so even though we are talking about a lot of data stored in the SSD, they will be able to be accessed extremely quickly.

Unfortunately, Samsung has not yet announced the date when they will launch their new SSD with 16 TB of storage space, nor the price they will ask for it, but we are definitely talking about a very large one, given the features offered.

For those of you who don't know, Apple uses Samsung SSDs in its Macs, but also Samsung NAND flash chips in the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, so maybe in many, many years we'll see an SSD of this kind in the Macs of those from Cupertino.
