Orange announces the financial results for Q1 2016

This morning Orange Romania announced financial results for Q1 2016, the mobile operator having a 6.5% increase in revenues compared to the same period last year, collecting 235,5 million euros.

Orange also announces that 4G traffic increased 4 times compared to Q1 2015, but also that the number of active 4G smartphones and tablets in the network has grown exponentially compared to the same period last year, which is easy to understand.

The number of 4G tablets sold in Q1 2016 compared to Q1 2015 doubled, this while 4G smartphone sales increased by 30% comparing the same periods, Orange strongly promoting this type of devices in its network.

Regarding Orange TV, we are talking about 294.000 subscribers of this service, the figure being constantly increasing, but for now very far from those of RCS & RDS, Telekom or UPC, but the service has a good evolution.

At the end of Q1 2016, Orange Romania had 10.009.000 subscribers, down compared to the previous fiscal quarter, 48.2% of them being subscribers, 51.8% being users of prepaid cards.

Bucharest, April 26, 2016. The Orange Group announces today the financial results for the first quarter of 2016, valid as of March 31.

In the first three months of this year, Orange Romania obtained revenues in the amount of 235,5 million euros, an increase of 6,5% compared to the same period last year. On March 31, 2016, Orange Romania had 10.009.000 customers, of which 48,2% were subscribers and 51,8% were users of PrePay services, the growing share of subscribers confirming the adoption trend of this type of service.

The Orange TV service registered 294.000 subscribers, with an increase of 54,5% compared to the same period last year, and for Orange TV Go the number of downloads and updates of the application reached 1,8 million, an increase of 11% compared to since the end of 2015.

In the first quarter of 2016, mobile internet traffic doubled compared to the first quarter of 2015, and 4G data traffic increased 4 times in the same period, this development was also supported by 2 times higher sales of tablets compared with the same period last year. Over 60% of customers have now opted for a 4G tablet. The number of customers using the 4G Call service had a very good evolution, thanks to the superior call quality. Thus, compared to the daily average from the last period of last year, in 2016 there was a 76% increase in customers using the 4G Call.

In the first quarter, 30% more smartphones were sold than in the same period last year, which means that the share of customers who prefer to purchase smartphones increased from half to more than 75% in 2016. regarding the share of 4G phones in total smartphones sold, at the end of Q1 2016, 75% were 4G compatible devices, compared to Q1 2015 when the share of 4G phones was 50%.

Currently, the Orange network offers access to mobile internet at 4G speeds for 72,1% of the total population and 96,2% of Romania's urban population. 4G+ coverage is constantly growing, with 13 cities currently and, in March, we launched the triple carrier demo, for download speeds of up to 375 Mbps, in 4 smart stores in Bucharest, Iași and Cluj.
