The old Yahoo Messenger will be shut down on August 5

The old version of Yahoo Messenger is shutting down on August 5th, Yahoo! forcing users to switch to the new platform launched in 2015.

Yahoo Messenger, the famous messaging network launched by Yahoo! many years ago, it will enter a new phase of its existence starting on August 5, then Yahoo! following to block the functionality of the old version of the program Yahoo! Messenger.

Yahoo Messenger launched 18 years ago, and although at one point it had hundreds of millions of users worldwide, smartphone and tablet applications proved to be too strong an opponent for the old messaging platform.

Yahoo! launched at the end of last year an updated version of Yahoo Messenger which had an improved interface and new functions, plus a more efficient way of working, but people convinced by Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp Messenger are still reluctant to return to Yahoo!.

Although Yahoo Messenger is no longer as popular as it once was, Yahoo! does not intend to completely close the messaging platform, but will force users to make the transition to the new one, offering improved functionality for everyone.

While today we provide basic interoperation between the legacy product and the new Messenger, we encourage all of our users to complete their transition to the new Yahoo Messenger as we will no longer support the legacy platform as of August 5, 2016. We intend to continue our focused efforts on the new Messenger, with a goal of delivering the best experience to our users.

If you're still using the old version of Yahoo Messenger, well, you'll have to switch to the new platform by August 5th, otherwise you won't be able to talk to any of your friends until you meet the requirements of Yahoo! regarding the conditions of use.

Yahoo Messenger started to become popular in Romania at the beginning of the 2000s and I remember the fact that I was using it even in 2007-2008, but after that the network lost its usefulness, and with all the efforts of Yahoo! I was no longer convinced to return.

Do you still use Yahoo Messenger?
