Trent Reznor: YouTube was built on stolen content

Trent Reznor, the lead singer of Nine Inch Nails and manager of Apple Music within Apple, criticized YouTube very harshly in a recent review given to an American publication, stating that the video sharing platform owned by Google was created based on content stealing.

Reznor says that YouTube was built on the work done by artists from all over the world, the content created by them being published for free on YouTube, where everyone could listen or see it without paying a penny, as it should be. normally with such creations.

Next to Reznor was the senior vice president of Apple, Eddy Cue, who supported his subordinate in criticizing YouTube and talking about what they learned from services of this kind when they thought of the Apple Music platform and launched -and then for users around the globe.

Reznor claims that audio streaming services are the ones for which people are not interested in paying money, but this mentality ultimately leads to the conviction of artists that such content is not worth doing because it does not generate money and cannot pay their monthly bills.

Personally, I find YouTube's business to be very disingenuous. It is built on the backs of free, stolen content and that's how they got that big. I think any free-tiered service is not fair. It's making their numbers and getting them a big IPO and it's built on the back of my work and that of my peers. That's how I feel about it. Strongly.

Also talking about the rumors regarding the possible abandonment of music downloads in the future, Apple representatives stated that although people don't really download music from the iTunes Store anymore, streaming will not become a priority anytime soon, so you can rest easy because you will still be able to download music without problems.
