iPhone 8 – wireless charging tested by Apple

Apple has begun testing a wireless charging system for the iPhone 8, requesting components and price quotes from Asian companies.

The Apple company is interested in offering a wireless charging system for iPhone 8, those from Cupertino are already discussing with an important Asian company regarding the implementation of this system. More precisely, those from Apple are in talks with MediaTek, NXP and IDT to buy from them chips for wireless charging dedicated to the iPhone.

The information comes directly from China, the country where those from MediaTek, NXP and IDT are active, Apple asking them for price quotes in order to buy components for wireless charging. For now, it is not known what kind of prices the companies would have asked for, but they will certainly be interested in collaborating with Apple for such a sale.

Many rumors appeared in recent weeks suggested that Apple will implement a wireless charging system in the iPhone 8, and now here we have the first confirmations. Those from MediaTek specialize in SoCs dedicated to smartphones, but they also develop wireless charging systems for Android terminals.

iPhone 8 could have wireless charging technology

Although MediaTek sells many components for a variety of Android terminal manufacturers, the company is not recognized as a premium product maker. Even so, they would provide some components for Apple based on strict instructions, so what they did, or are doing, for others, will not matter much.

"Apple would have requested price quotes from MediaTek for chips dedicated to wireless charging that would be used in an iPhone case. With such components, the Apple company could begin to create accessories to test wireless charging systems for the iPhone. Separately from MediaTek, NXP and IDT will send price and component quotes to Apple."

Basically, since Apple is testing products belonging to three companies and has asked for price quotes, it is clear that its interest in implementing wireless charging in the iPhone 8 is very high. Even if this seems unlikely now, I'm pretty sure that the iPhone 8 will ship with this new technology.
