iPhone 7 – the first quad-core processor in A10 Fusion

iPhone 7 has a quad-core processor in the new A10 Fusion chip, with two cores clocked at 2.8 GHz for high performance.

For the first time in the history of the iPhone, Apple has implemented a quad-core processor in iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, this being integrated in the new A10 Fusion chip developed by the Americans. We are talking about a chip designed to bring substantially better performance than the A9 used in the iPhone 6S by using four cores that will support all tasks.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus practically come with a major revolution in terms of iPhone performance, all thanks to this A10 Fusion chip.

Two 2.8 GHz cores and two cores that consume little energy

According to the official information provided by the Apple company, the new A10 Fusion chip is the result of a long research and development process, the results being adequate. Apple managed to create a chip in which you can find a processor with 4 cores, they are thought to offer the best balance between performance and long battery life.

In this idea, Apple says that two of the cores are for high performance and two consume very little energy, taking care of very simple tasks. The last two cores consume a fifth of the energy of those for high performance, so they will seriously contribute to increasing the autonomy of the iPhone 7 battery.

The other two cores for high performance work at frequencies that are up to 2 times higher than those of the iPhone 6 processor. In this idea, we are talking about processors that will work at frequencies of up to 2.8 GHz to run everything as much as possible fast and fluid on iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

"With an all-new four-core design, the A10 Fusion chip's CPU has two high-performance cores and two high-efficiency cores. The high-performance cores can run at up to 2x the speed of iPhone 6, while the high-efficiency cores are capable of running at just one-fifth the power of the high-performance cores. That means you get the best performance and efficiency when you need it."

In order to offer this processor with 4 cores and dynamic frequencies, Apple created another chip that deals with analyzing tasks and controlling core frequencies. This chip decides in real time how much processing power we need to use the terminals and modifies the working frequencies of the cores as needed.

Performance graphics card

Apart from the powerful quad-core processor for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple has also implemented a customized graphics card in the new A10 Fusion chip. It is almost 2 times more powerful than the iPhone 6S and 3 times more powerful than the iPhone 6, so we benefit from high performance in the terminals.

Apple does not specify the manufacturer or model of the graphics card, but we are most likely talking about a graphics card manufactured by PowerVR, Apple's traditional partner. We will find out the exact model only after the first iPhone 7 will be disassembled, so we will have to wait until we know all the details.

In conclusion, Apple offers us an A10 Fusion chip with a quad-core processor that is up to 40% more efficient than the one in the A9 chip, the graphics card being up to 100% more efficient.
