iPhone 7 costs 900 dollars in India

India is the country where the most expensive iPhone and iPhone 7 Plus are sold, the basic version costing no less than 900 dollars in stores.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were launched today in India by the Apple company, but unfortunately it comes with a very unpleasant surprise for the fans in the country. Specifically, the iPhone 7 has a starting price of $900 in India, $150 more than the one charged in the US (including 9% tax), and the difference is due, according to local sellers, to high import taxes .

India imposes a very high tax on important products, those produced locally have a much better tax treatment, and those from Apple cannot bear the high cost. In this idea, the iPhone 7 costs at least 900 dollars in India, the most expensive version being sold at the price of 1400 dollars, double the cheapest iPhone in the USA.

The difference between the price perceived in India and that in Europe is only 50 dollars per unit, so it is not colossal and puts into perspective the high price practiced even on European soil. However, the difference between Europe and India is given by the fact that the average annual salary in the country is 1600 dollars per capita, so an iPhone costs more than half of it.

In the past, Apple had a similar problem in Brazil, where its terminals were sold at almost as high prices, and this in the conditions where the country imposes similar import taxes. Those from Apple should produce the iPhone locally to be able to sell it cheaper, and Foxconn is already working on a plan to build a factory.

Until this factory is actually built, the Apple company will be forced to sell the iPhone 7 at the price of 900 dollars now and something lower in the future. The very high price will keep Indians far away from the new smartphone because few will spend half of their annual salary to buy a simple smartphone.

Having said that, iPhone 7 can be more expensive than in Romania, but the difference is not as big as it should be.
