Apple is developing an operating system for cars

Apple is developing an operating system for cars, which will be used in its future smart car.

Although the company no longer develops an actual car Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), is currently developing an operating system for cars, Canada being the country where everything takes place. Apple hired many former employees of Blackberry's QNX division to develop this operating system for cars, as they are specialized in this.

QNX is a division of Blackberry that has developed software for the entertainment systems of an extremely varied range of cars sold worldwide. Many well-known brands have bought software from QNX for their own cars, and those from Apple want to use former Blackberry engineers to develop an operating system for a possible future car.

This operating system will control the car the way iOS controls an iPhone, and the former QNX engineers from Canada have the necessary experience to help Apple. Separately from those developing this operating system for cars, other engineers are developing an autonomous guidance system for cars, with Apple mainly focusing on it.

For the main operating system, Apple engineers implemented extensive support for CarPlay, which was to be expected, considering its importance. Apple engineers also thought of a HUD on which information from applications can be displayed directly on the car's windshield, with Siri controlling a good part of the car's functions.

"Apple Inc. has dozens of software engineers in Canada building a car operating system. Many of the engineers working in Canada were hired over the past year and about two dozen came from BlackBerry Ltd.'s QNX. Apple engineers envisioned a heads-up display showing apps such as maps that could be manipulated by the company's voice-based digital assistant Siri."

Developing an operating system for a future smart car is something logical for the Apple company, considering the strategy of the Americans. They want to fully control any kind of product launched on the market, and with their own operating system, they could fully control their own smart car.
