WhatsApp – video calls are already tested

WhatsApp is testing a feature for video calls that will be released to all users worldwide.

Years behind competing applications, WhatsApp Messenger will make video calls in the near future, according to information published today. It seems that WhatsApp has already started testing the new video calling function in a beta version of the application that is currently offered only to users of Android terminals.

WhatsApp's new video calling feature works just as easily as VoIP calls, making them extremely easy to initiate. Users have the option to initiate voice and video calls when interacting with a contact from the contact book, a separate option for initiating these calls being available in the chat interface.

The quality of video calls made using WhatsApp is, however, apparently better than that of FaceTime calls, at least using a 4G connection. This was discovered by some of those who tested this function during the last few days, and this is really a surprise that very few people expected from WhatsApp.

Considering that for now those from WhatsAPp are testing the function of video calls only with the users of the Android platform, it is difficult to say how long it will take until it is launched globally. Regardless of the situation, probably by the end of the year WhatsApp will officially launch the new feature for all its global users, but we have to wait and see when that will happen.
