Samsung and LG in the fight for Apple contracts

Samsung and LG are fighting for contracts to supply OLED screens for future models of iPhone terminals.

Samsung and LG are in a fierce battle to win contracts for the manufacture of OLED screens that will be implemented in future terminals iPhone of the Apple company. The information comes from a South Korean publication, which states that both companies are investing record amounts in equipping factories to produce OLED screens.

Those from Samsung already sell smartphones that have built-in OLED screens, but they want to produce these components separately, and Apple and LG have equally high aspirations. At stake are contracts worth several billion dollars that Apple is willing to pay to equip its future iPhone models with such a component.

At the moment, Samsung produces approximately 95% of OLED screens for smartphones or laptops, so it has a huge advantage over those from LG. LG wants to have a similar production, so now it has under construction the largest factory where OLED screens dedicated to a variety of electronic products will be produced.

Separately, those from Sharp are also interested in the Apple company's billions and through Foxconn they are investing a lot of money in expanding their capacity to produce OLED screens. In this idea, in 2017 those from Apple will have an extremely difficult choice to make in terms of awarding contracts, but this will help them negotiate excellent prices.

"LG Display and Samsung Display will invest about 13 trillion won (US$11.6 billion) in flexible OLEDs this year alone to win new orders for the iPhone from Apple. Analysis says that their investment volume combined is a record high and the two global panel giants began a "do or die" fight over the flexible OLED leadership."
