The iPhone will have augmented reality in the Camera application

The Apple company places great emphasis on the development of technology for augmented reality, and the iPhone's Camera application will be the first to benefit from it. The president of Apple, Tim Cook, has repeatedly praised his company's efforts to create this technology for augmented reality, and now he finds out why he does it.

In recent years, Apple has bought multiple companies that have technologies based on augmented reality, and some will end up in the iPhone's Camera application. Basically, it all boils down to a system that would allow users to identify objects in the real world using the iPhone and pointing the camera at those objects in the real world.

Apart from object recognition, the Apple company intends to implement an advanced facial recognition system for its users. Along with recognizing people's faces, the Camera application could also manipulate their shape to generate any kind of changes users want.

The augmented reality system for the iPhone camera will not only be available for the native Camera app, but also for app developers. Apple wants to give them access to the functionality through a special SDK, but it's hard to say if it will be launched together with the new functions, or only 1 year later.

"By adding AR technology into the iPhone's camera software, Apple wants consumers to be able to point the phone at a real-world object and have it be recognized, according to the person familiar with the matter. That would require creating or licensing a database of 3D objects."

Based on what we know now, it seems that the iPhone 8 will contain this augmented reality system for the camera, if it will be ready in time. The Apple company is trying to complete the development process of this system until the fall of next year, and although there would be time, it remains to be seen if the engineers will fulfill the plans.

Having said that, what do you think about Apple's plans?
