This evening, the Wi-Fi call function was officially launched by Orange Romania for iPhone users, more than 8 months after the launch of the 4G call function. Carrier Bundle Update 27.1 activates this new function in iPhone terminals, according to some readers of iDevice.ro, but you must also send an empty SMS to 232 to activate the function in Orange servers.
In iOS 10.3 beta 1 I don't have the function active, although I have Carrier Bundle 27.5 for Orange, so if you use this version of the operating system, it would be good to know what to expect. In the rest of the public versions of iOS 10, you should receive the carrier bundle update and be able to activate the Wi-Fi call function on your iPhone terminals.
The Wi-Fi call function, which Orange finally offers us including on the iPhone, allows us to make phone calls through a Wi-Fi network, when the GSM signal is weak in the area where we are. The call will consume the minutes we have available in the subscription/Orange card, but it will facilitate conversations in areas with poor coverage.
The Wi-Fi call function is available on all terminals launched from the iPhone 5S, inclusive, so any other previous terminals will not be able to make Wi-Fi calls. This is a restriction imposed by Apple, not by Orange, so you don't have to blame them if you have a terminal incompatible with the function.
Orange is the first mobile phone operator in Romania to launch the Wi-Fi call function for iPhone. So how many of you have it active?

Wi-Fi call takes over the phone function, it doesn't matter what the person you call has. The difference without an application like WhatsApp is that you can call fixed or mobile phone numbers.

I did the following: update to orange 27.1, restart, sms to 232, received a response as it should be activated from the phone "wi-fi call", restart, activate wifi call, accept as requested and restart again. I think this is the idea, restart after each request to the network. Now "Orange Wi-Fi" appears in my house because the Orange signal was no higher than 2-3 points, being now automatically switched to wi-fi where the signal is maximum.

Runs great on i7+. At the basement I had 1 maximum 2 signal line on 3G and the quality of the calls left much to be desired. Huge difference on wifi calling.
