Apple sells more premium smartphones than Samsung

Apple dominates the premium smartphone market, and this is highlighted by the results of an analysis made for the sales of this type of product in December. According to those from Counterpoint, a company specialized in monitoring global smartphone markets, Apple sold far more premium smartphones than Samsung.

According to these data, 70.1% of the smartphones sold by Apple in December 2016 were premium, while only 17.2% of those sold by Samsung fell into this category. We are talking about a colossal difference between the two companies, showing again why Apple collects over 90% of the smartphone industry's profit.

Without providing figures regarding the sales of each company, those from Counterpoint still say that, in their view, a premium smartphone has a minimum price of 400 dollars. In this idea, Apple would have generated much more money than Samsung from the sale of premium smartphones, as happens almost every year.

In Q4 2016 it is estimated that Apple would have sold 77 million iPhone terminals, while Samsung could have sales of 10 million units higher, this being the situation in Q4 2016. The majority of these sales, for both manufacturers, are the more likely registered in December, and Apple ruled its competitor without right of appeal.

"Apple and Samsung's share shifts in the premium segment (US$400+ wholesale) have always been almost a zero-sum game, but the gap has widened to more than 50 percentage point difference. Part of the reason being the absence of Galaxy Note 7 and rising competition from rivals' flagships such as Huawei Mate 8, Google Pixel and Moto Z in some markets."

Probably many of you already knew that the vast majority of smartphones sold by Samsung are cheap, and this explains why the manufacturer does not have a colossal profit.
