Apple is among the top smartphone manufacturers in China

The Apple company fell to the 5th place in the list of smartphone manufacturers in China in Q4 2016, losing its place to the Chinese from Xiaomi. Total smartphone sales in China in Q4 2016 reached 131.6 million units, a slight increase compared to the same period last year.

With the growth recorded during this fiscal quarter, China registered a new record in annual smartphone sales, reaching 476.5 million units. In total, during 2016 smartphone sales increased by 11.4% compared to 2015, the improvement in sales being based on small Chinese manufacturers.

Throughout 2016, those from Huawei conquered the first place in the smartphone sales list with 76.2 million units delivered to customers. In second place we have those from Oppo with 73.2 million units, Vivo occupying the 3rd place with 63.2 million units, Apple only reaching the 4th place with 43.8 million units, down 18.2% compared to 2015.

Unfortunately for those from Apple, the iPhone 7 failed to attract the interest of the Chinese in Q4 2016, so sales dropped considerably. The Apple company lost a lot of money due to the decrease in sales in China, and the next fiscal quarters are not looking so good, as the local manufacturers are getting stronger.

"Xiaomi became number four in the China smartphone market, while Apple fell to fifth place. Xiaomi shipped a total of 51.4 million units of smartphones with a 21 percent year-on-year decline, while its market share decreased from 15.2 percent in 2015 to 10.7 percent in 2016, the lowest since 2013. Apple shipped 43.8 million units of iPhones throughout the year, a year-on-year decrease of 18.2 percent."
