WhatsApp launches the Stories feature on the iPhone

WhatsApp today announced a new function called stories, which replaces the status function on users' iPhone terminals.

WhatsApp, the most used application for text, photo and video messaging on the planet, will have a new integrated Stories feature starting today. We are talking about a new application from the Facebook company that has implemented a Stories function, WhatsApp bringing it to over 1 billion users from all over the planet.

The new Stories function is linked to the one for changing the status of the WhatsApp application, the old method being completely replaced by the American company. More precisely, starting with the new update for the WhatsApp application, we will no longer be able to set a status, but we will only be able to publish multimedia content that is visible for 24 hours.

More precisely, the Stories function for WhatsApp allows us to create a photo-video collage with text that is visible for 24 hours to friends before disappearing. The exact same Stories function is offered for Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and now WhatsApp, all these Facebook applications stealing the function from Snapchat, which has had it for years.

Unlike other applications that have the Stories function, WhatsApp also allows you to share animated GIF images, and this is an interesting novelty. Moreover, all WhatsApp stories are encrypted, so theoretically after 24 hours they should disappear completely, without WhatsApp, or anyone else, being able to recover them.

Video clips for WhatsApp's Stories function can have a maximum of 45 seconds, instead of 10 as in other applications, limits for pictures not being available. With this new function, WhatsApp transforms from a simple messaging application into one that will become, in the not too distant future, a social network, as Facebook would like.

"This is a format that is being widely adopted, and we're adopting it as well. There are some pretty interesting things that we've done to make it unique to WhatsApp. We're not adding ads to WhatsApp, and we don't have plans to do that."

The update for the WhatsApp application is going to be available starting today for users in certain countries around the globe. In Romania, we may have to wait a little longer until we can use the new version of the WhatsApp application, so we have to be patient.
