Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus – 4 things I like

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus has 4 things that I really like and that I would like to see implemented in future iPhone models.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus it's been in my possession for almost 2 weeks thanks to Orange and the Orange Smartphone Tester program, in which anyone could participate. As part of the articles in which I talk about the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, today I will tell you 4 things that I like about the new smartphone and that I would like to see available in future Apple products as well.

This is the penultimate article in the series, and in the following days I will also publish the review for the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, so stay close to find out all my impressions.

The infinitely impressive screen of the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus

The first thing that "set me back" when I came into contact with the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus was the screen implemented by the Samsung company in the product. Praised by experts as the best screen ever implemented in a smartphone, the OLED in the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus will make you want something similar in any kind of electronic product you use.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus has a 6.2-inch screen, and the first thing that should be praised is the very large area of the case that it occupies. Using the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, you have the impression that you are holding a simple screen with which you can interact and on which you will see the images extremely clearly, the colors being reproduced almost perfectly, but also with a very strong brightness.

From my point of view, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus has a perfect screen for a smartphone and the way it is implemented in the case represents the future. We already know that in the fall Apple will take over this idea of screens that cover the entire front panel of the case, so if you have the opportunity, I recommend you to use the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus to familiarize yourself with the experience of using a smartphone that does not have a covered front panel unnecessary plastic and glass.

The new Home button with haptic feedback

As you already know very well, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus has a home button that is no longer physical, but virtual, but it benefits from a haptic feedback similar to the 3D Touch in the iPhone. Unlike the iPhone, the Home button in the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is much more discreet and visible only in the lower part of the user interface, as a button of this kind should be.

The Home button of the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is permanently displayed in the application interface and can be used in the same way as a physical one, but it is at least smaller than that of an iPhone. This change shows you how to free up space in the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus interface to display more useful content for users, instead of having that space blocked by a front panel.

It is true that the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus has a compromise from this point of view and the fingerprint reader has ended up in the worst possible position, i.e. in the case. If it had also had a fingerprint reader integrated under the Home button, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus would have had the perfect implementation, but in this situation we are only talking about a very good idea that Apple should take over.

I like that on the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus everything is thought minimalist for this Home button and I hope that Apple will do the same with the iPhone 8.

Facial recognition, even if it is imperfect

samsung galaxy s8 plus facial recognition

Facial recognition has been available in Android for years, and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus uses it because the Home button no longer has a fingerprint reader. Although facial recognition in the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is not as secure as scanning the iris or reading a fingerprint, it eases the work of using the terminal in everyday life and should reach the iPhone.

In the absence of fingerprint reading when you press the Home button, facial recognition unlocks the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus almost as quickly as the fingerprint reader in the iPhone 7 Plus. The rest of the unlocking experience is identical, because both on the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus and on the iPhone 7 Plus you have access to data by simply pressing the Home button, without going through any additional steps.

It's hard to say if Samsung will ever have a facial recognition system secure enough to replace an iris scan or a fingerprint, as the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus can be fooled with a photo. Despite this, I like how the system works in the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus and I hope it reaches the iPhone as well.

Intelligent use of space

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus has a screen whose diagonal exceeds that of the iPhone 0.7 Plus by 7 inches, but the total dimensions are approximately equal between the terminals. The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is narrower than the iPhone 7 Plus, but it is just as long, and here Samsung has very intelligently used the space in the front panel that it had at its disposal to integrate the screen.

By putting the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus and the iPhone 7 Plus next to each other, you can see the future and the past as clearly as possible, and if Apple does not understand this, it will have many problems in the future. Yes, iOS remains more stable and safer than Android, plus easier to use, but many people also look at the design, and from this point of view the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus wins hands down.

The front panel of the iPhone 7 Plus has a 10-year-old design and that started to become "tiring" for many, so the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus can "pave" the way to something better. I hope that Apple makes the iPhone 8 a smartphone with a screen as well thought out as that of the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, otherwise the "iconic" front panel of the iPhone will be overlooked by many.
