YouTube announces changes for videos

YouTube announced in the past days an important change for the system that restricts the playback of certain video clips for those who access its platform. Until recently, the YouTube company restricted the possibility to see certain video clips when Restricted Mode was activated, some of them being incorrectly marked for restriction.

This Restricted Mode of YouTube was created for parents who do not want their children to see certain types of videos that are not suitable for them. Unfortunately, it seems that YouTube was incorrectly blocking videos that were not "dangerous" for minors, and this problem has been resolved, according to the American company.

In a recent post, those from YouTube announced that they have made changes to the algorithm that automatically classifies video clips uploaded to the network. Based on these changes, the software behind YouTube should correctly apply the classification tags to the videos, so that they are no longer wrongly restricted.

Based on this change, no less than 12 million video clips that were blocked in the past are now available for playback to Restricted Mode users. This change only affects users who used Restricted Mode in YouTube, because the rest of the users have access to any kind of content uploaded to the network anyway.

"After a thorough investigation, we started making several improvements to Restricted Mode. On the engineering side, we fixed an issue that was incorrectly filtering videos for this feature, and now 12 million additional videos of all types — including hundreds of thousands featuring LGBTQ+ content — are available in Restricted Mode."
