Apple is testing 5G technology for the iPhone

Apple has started testing 5G technology to use it with future iPhone models, those from Cupertino submitting the documentation to receive an experimental license in this regard. The 5G technology that Apple is currently testing is called millimeter wave, bringing very high internet browsing speeds, but also a better signal for terminals.

The US authorities have registered the license to Apple to test the 5G technology for the iPhone, so there are probably already prototypes that have integrated compatible modems. Based on the license granted, the Apple company can test the 5G technology on the iPhone in two locations in California, but everything is now just at the beginning, unfortunately.

Surprisingly, the Apple company announced that the testing of 5G technology for the iPhone in order to develop a final version should not last more than 1 year. As expected, the iPhone 8 will not benefit from 5G support, but probably few expected the iPhone 8S/iPhone 9 to have it, but Apple seems confident that this will happen.

Of course, Apple will not implement 5G support in the iPhone without mobile phone operators around the world having mature enough networks for compatible smartphones. In this idea, even if Apple will have an iPhone with 5G support ready in a year, it is hard to say if the mobile operators will have the networks ready.

"Apple Inc. seeks to assess cellular link performance in direct path and multipath environments between base station transmitters and receivers using this spectrum. These assessments will provide engineering data relevant to the operation of devices on wireless carriers' future 5G networks."
