Apple Watch - sales in Q1 2017

Apple Watch had an extremely good first quarter, according to Strategy Analytics, stating that the Apple smartwatch was the king of the smart watch market. They claim that the Apple Watch alone generated 53% of the total sales of the smartwatch market in Q1 2017, an extremely important achievement for a smartwatch and Apple.

According to analysts, Apple Watch has captured 53% of the smartwatch market, and the difference compared to competitors is extremely large. More precisely, Fitbit is in the second position with 12.8% market share in sales, and those from Samsung are in fourth position with 12.2% market share based on sales, both companies having sales more than 4 times lower.

The interesting thing here is that Samsung managed to overtake Fitbit in smartwatch sales, and for Koreans this is a real achievement for 2017. Of course, here we are talking about millions of Apple Watch units sold worldwide and hundreds of thousands of units sold by those from Fitbit and Samsung, so only Apple really made good money.

Smartwatches have grown in popularity since the last months of last year, and Apple Watch Series 1 and 2, plus Samsung Gear S3 seem to have had the most to gain. Those from Fitbit bought vector Watch in order to increase its sales in the smartwatch world, but it remains to be seen how much the Romanian company will help them in the fight with Apple and Samsung.

"According to the data compiled by Strategy Analytics, Samsung captured 12.8 percent of the global market share in terms of sales during the January-March period, overtaking Fitbit with 12.2 percent. Apple maintained its No. 1 status with a commanding 53-percent market share.”
