Facebook is the company that owns the largest social network on the planet, with over 2 billion active users worldwide at the moment. The figure is a colossal one, if we consider the fact that Facebook will barely complete 10 years since its establishment, but the conquest of the planet began shortly after the creation of the first version of the social network.
Facebook wants the internet to be free in the future, so together with Google announced that he would participate in a protest organized to support internet neutrality. This protest will be organized on July 12 in the USA, and Facebook and Google are participating in it because they want not to be burdened by a new legislation that will destroy the neutrality of the Internet, first in the USA, then in other countries.
Facebook is one of the most important companies on the planet, and its idea to participate in these protests will definitely have a very big impact on American legislators. Of course, Facebook also does a lot of lobbying to impose its ideas for the laws that the USA gives, so it will not be difficult for it to pay to get what it wants.
Facebook participates in protests with employees supporting internet neutrality
Facebook and Google have not detailed how they will participate in these protests, but they are not the only ones who have announced their presence there. More precisely, apart from Facebook we will find: Google, Amazon, Netflix, Reddit, Mozilla, Kickstarter and Spotify, but maybe even the Apple company will have people present there to support its interests to a similar extent.
Facebook participates in these protests because the presidential administration of Donald Trump wants to impose new measures for monitoring and censorship of the population. These measures will affect, of course, including Facebook or Google, but also video streaming companies, because "special internet lines" could be introduced for various services.
"Websites, Internet users, and online communities will come together to sound the alarm about the FCC's attack on net neutrality. We'll provide tools for everyone to make it super easy for your followers / visitors to take action. From the SOPA blackout to the Internet Slowdown, we've shown time and time again that when the Internet comes together, we can stop censorship and corruption."
Facebook knows that if the US government imposes restrictions on the use of the Internet, or new measures for monitoring, the company has a lot to lose, so it tries to prevent this. Facebook also cooperates with the other companies that will be involved in the protest that will take place in the USA next week, so it will be interesting to see if they will manage to change things in any way.
Facebook has enough money to do whatever it wants, and this participation in the protests is just another demonstration of the power it has in the US.
