We are talking about two phone models, more precisely a Google Pixel 2 with a 5-inch screen and a Google Pixel 2 XL, which will have a 6-inch diagonal screen, but will also have a different design thought by the company.
Google Pixel 2 is going to closely resemble the model released last year, but in the case of Google Pixel 2 XL we are talking about a major improvement. More precisely, although the Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL will have the same cases as the previous models, the Google company is preparing major changes for the front panel, but only in the case of one of its two smartphones.
Google Pixel 2 will have the same screen with large edges at the top and bottom, here Google prefers not to change anything at all. In the case of the Google Pixel 2 XL, we are talking about a front panel that will be dominated by the 6-inch diagonal screen, the upper and lower edges being thin, so practically everything that will be seen on it will be the images played through Android.
Google Pixel 2 – Google's design mistake
Google Pixel 2 will be manufactured by the HTC company, which still does not produce smartphones with screens that cover the entire front panel, so this is where the explanation for the lack of change comes from. The Google Pixel 2 XL is manufactured by LG, the Korean company already preparing the launch of a new model that has a screen that almost completely covers the front panel of the case, according to rumors.
The Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL will also have an integrated Qualcomm Snapdragon 836 chip, which is a generation newer than the 835 in the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Apart from a slight performance improvement for the Google Pixel 2, it's hard to said what this processor could bring significantly new, so only after the launch will we find out what is the surprise behind it.

Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL are thought to be smartphones that will compete with iPhone 8 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 after launch, but will be much cheaper than Apple and Samsung products.
