UBER Gives Up a Very Controversial Function

UBER removed from the application a very controversial function that permanently monitored the location of users after making a ride through the platform.

UBER is currently the largest passenger transport service in taxi mode, without being a licensed company to provide such services. UBER has an application that is used by an extremely large number of people all over the planet, and recently it was left without one of the extremely controversial functions because of which the American company has been highly criticized in recent years.

Last year, UBER was involved in a huge scandal after it was revealed that the application monitored the location of users even if it was completely closed in the background. Some customers reported that they were monitored for several days by the UBER application without initially knowing, and the company defended itself by saying that it does not do this, but of course it lied, so that now it will completely eliminate the function.

UBER was forced by the Apple company to make a change that eliminates constant monitoring, iOS 11 offering the possibility to have active activation only when the application is used, not all the time, as it was until now. Without acknowledging the fact that it is obliged by Apple to make this change, at least in iOS, the UBER company announced that it is implementing the option to have the location monitored only when we use its application.

UBER has never offered an explanation for wanting to monitor the location of its users at all times, only saying it wants to keep them safe after rides, which is a lie. Some have stated that UBER actually wanted to discover the drivers who were trying to defraud the system by continuing the rides even though they were stopping them from the application, but only those from the company know the truth, and we will find out in a few years.

UBER said it did not collect data from users iPhone, but only from the Android ones, but this is probably for fear of the fact that Apple could remove their application from the AppStore, as Tim Cook threatened. All iPhone users benefit from the new function that limits the location through the UBER application, but only those who will not install iOS 11 will really benefit from the change, because the rest already have it active.

"The change, which restores users' ability to share location data only while using the app, is expected to be announced on Tuesday and rolled out to iPhone users starting this week. It comes as Uber tries to recover from a series of crises culminating in the ouster of Chief Executive Travis Kalanick and other top executives."

UBER has now learned that Apple is not a company to try to fool, because there is very little chance of getting away with it, however you try to think things through. Those from UBER have not announced when the update for the iPhone application that includes this change will be available, but surely we will not have long to wait for it, considering its importance.
