iOS 11 – Siri Ditches Bing for Google

iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra bring a big change to Siri, with Google Search now being used instead of Bing for web search results.

iOS 11 comes with a major change for the personal assistant Siri, the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), making the decision to partially give up Bing for searches in favor of Google Search. Specifically, iOS 11 and MacOS High Sierra displays in the Spotlight/Search system information from Google Search instead of Bing for web searches, the change being an extremely important one for those from Apple, it seriously affects Google.

iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra will bring a lot of traffic to Google Search thanks to this change and will give Google an accurate idea of the number of people using voice search systems. The good part for us is that Google Search offers more accurate information for searches all over the planet, Bing being completely useless in Romania, for example, so the user experience will be seriously improved for many users.

iOS 11 has this change made, according to Apple, to provide more consistency in the results of online searches made by users. Safari in iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra already have Google Search as the default search engine, so all the information displayed everywhere will have the same source, and users will no longer be so confused when they see the data from the various interfaces.

iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra will bring even more billions of dollars into Apple's accounts, those from Google paying 3 billion dollars just to have Google Search as the default search engine of iOS. It is not known how many billions will be paid for this change made in the case of Siri, but we are certainly talking about a very profitable agreement for those at Apple, otherwise the change would not have been made.

"Switching to Google as the web search provider for Siri, Search within iOS and Spotlight on Mac will allow these services to have a consistent web search experience with the default in Safari. We have strong relationships with Google and Microsoft and remain committed to delivering the best user experience possible."
