iPhone – New Technology in Screens from 2018

The iPhone will have a new technology in screens from 2018, the Apple company intending to use a new type of LCD screen with larger dimensions.

iPhone will have a new technology in screens from 2018, Apple and Japan Display companies are already working on its development for the phones that will be launched next year. Although many people thought that Apple would only use OLED screens in the iPhone starting in 2018, since it implemented one of this kind in iPhone X, here is that in reality the plans of those from Cupertino are much different.

The iPhone with an OLED screen is difficult to manufacture and much more expensive than models with LCD screens, the problems with ensuring sufficient quantities of screens forcing Apple to continue using the old technology. Because Apple cannot completely give up LCD technology for iPhone screens even in 2018, it intends to buy from Japan Display screens that have Full Active technology, which offers the advantages of OLED screens and even more.

iPhones with Full Active LCD screens have much smaller edges, up to half, than the standard ones, or than the OLED ones, and this allows them to be curved more easily. These types of screens are already used by those from Xiaomi in their own mobile phones, and the Apple company is forced to use them in the iPhone starting from 2018 because it cannot buy enough OLEDs.

The iPhone could benefit thanks to these OLED screens and the possibility of having curved edges for the screen towards the outside of the case, as in the Galaxy Edge series. It was said that Apple would like to launch iPhones with such features, but so far nothing notable has appeared to confirm the fact that any manufacturer could offer the American company enough screens of this kind.

The iPhone would have Full Active LCD screens starting in the fall of 2018, Japan Display starting production in the first part of next year, it will grow until 2019. Japan Display says that these types of screens will represent 70% of its total production until the spring of 2019, so there is no doubt that Apple will buy them for the iPhone, since many of Apple's current LCD screens come from Japan Display.

"Apple Inc. has expressed interest in buying advanced liquid-crystal displays from Japan Display Inc. for some iPhones next year, people knowledgeable about the matter said, a sign the technology has life despite competition from a newer type of display."

From 2018, the iPhone would have LCD screens with a diagonal of 5.8 inches and 6.46 inches, and those from Japan Display would be the suppliers of a good part of these components. Of course, more details about the future iPhone models that will be released in 2018, but it is good to know in advance what Apple has planned, especially since next year's series will be extremely important, as the successor to iPhone X.
