Samsung Galaxy S9: Function Stolen from iPhone X and Dual-SIM Support

The Samsung Galaxy S9 will steal a popular feature from the iPhone X, but the Korean company also plans to implement dual-SIM support for customers.

Samsung Galaxy S9 is prepared to be presented by the Korean company Samsung in less than a month and yesterday we talked about the Intelligentscan function designed to counter Face ID in the iPhone X. The Korean company uses the iris scanner and the front camera to create a more secure facial recognition system for the Samsung Galaxy S9, but it won't be as secure as the iPhone X's Face ID.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 will not only have facial recognition for unlocking, but it will also have a function copied from Animoji, only that it could work somewhat differently, because it is intended for the dual camera of the Plus model. Last year, Samsung launched photo stickers that can be placed over users' faces, and with the Samsung Galaxy S9, it adds 3D stickers that have a depth effect and can also be placed over photos with a bokeh effect.

"Today, I found depth sensing stickers. It will use the dual camera and allow you to change the depth and focus of the stickers. Seems like an addition to live focus.”

Samsung Galaxy S9 will allow people to place 3D stickers with depth over faces, somewhat similar to what we have available for Animoji, MSQRD, or Face Rig, a system of analyzing the depth of objects being used. For now it seems that the new function with 3D stickers will not be available for selfies taken using the Samsung Galaxy S9, so only those taken with the new dual camera will have the integrated function.

Samsung Galaxy S9 – function stolen from iPhone X and dual-SIM support

The Samsung Galaxy S9 will not only have important news on the software side, but also a major change for the hardware, specifically dual-SIM support, a first for Europe. The Korean company sold dual-SIM models of its premium phones in various markets around the world, but in the German version of its website a model of the Samsung Galaxy S9 was discovered that has integrated dual-SIM support.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 with dual-SIM support allows the simultaneous use of two cards for phone calls and internet browsing, so a major additional functionality compared to the iPhone X. The interesting part is that in 2017 there were rumors suggesting that an iPhone with dual-SIM support will be launched in 2018, so offering the Samsung Galaxy S9 with this feature in Europe could be an attempt to counter future Apple phones.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus will not bring major design changes this year, the Korean company focusing more on the internal components and software of the two phones. The Samsung Galaxy S9 will be presented on February 25 at the Mobile World Congress 2018, pre-orders will start on March 2, and the launch should take place on March 9 or 16.
