Android – The Major Problem It Still Has Compared to iOS

Android 7 Nougat is the most used version of the Android operating system, it being installed on 28.5% of all terminals that are currently active worldwide. We are talking about over 2 billion active Android terminals globally, and 28.5% of them are running Android 7 Nougat at …… 17 months after the first version was released.

Android 7 Nougat needed 17 months to become the most used version of Android, barely surpassing Android 6 Marshmallow, released in 2015. This change recently confirmed by Google shows the sad state of the Android ecosystem at the moment face and how difficult the updates are.

If in the case of the new versions of iOS, the adoption rate exceeds 50% of the total user base about a month after the launch, in the case of Android it takes a year and a half. That's how long it will take until a new version of the operating system becomes the most used, and this shows us that updates are rare and difficult, as manufacturers avoid offering new versions in a timely manner.

Now if we look at Android 8 Oreo, launched last fall by Google, the adoption rate barely reached 1.1%, so far behind Android 7 Nougat, or Marshmallow. Google has been struggling for years to solve the problem of updates for Android, but year after year we find out how difficult it is to offer new versions of the operating system to users.
