Apple has finally approved the development of MFi accessories for iPhone and iPad that have a USB-C connector, so their number will increase soon.

Apple USB-C iPhone Accessories

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), today took a very big step towards normality, allowing its partners to produce USB-C accessories for terminals iPhone and iPad tablets through the Made for iPhone/iPad/iPod (MFi) program. Apple allows its partners to create accessories compatible with iPhone and iPad that can connect to USB-C ports, one connector to be with this standard, the other connector to be Lightning to be inserted into iDevices.

Thanks to the approval to produce USB-C to Lightning accessories, manufacturers can offer new types of USB-C accessories that can charge the iPhone, transfer data, or bring new functions to users. The Apple company has been selling accessories of this kind for some time, but only now it allows its partners in the MFi program to launch USB-C compatible accessories on the market, they are important in the context where fast charging for iPhone 8 and iPhone X would be much improved .

Apple Approves Development of USB-C Accessories for iPhone

This change could bring cheaper Lightning to USB-C accessories to the market than those sold by Apple, and this is very good news, especially for those who also have computers with USB-C ports. In the documentation for this change, the Apple company claims that accessories such as external batteries, external speakers and more can be developed, so we are talking about the extended functionality that will be offered to us.

It will take some time between this change of strategy by Apple and the appearance of the first Lightning to USB-C products, but the good part is that Apple finally accepts this standard as well. It was expected that Apple would do it eventually and it is good that it offers more options for partners, but that does not mean that it intends to implement a USB-C port in the iPhone and iPad, at least not in the immediate future .
