Cheap iPhones Affect Android Phone Sales

Cheap iPhones have suffocated Android phone sales over the past year, with manufacturers losing serious amounts of money to Apple's strategies.

Cheap iPhone Sales Android Phones

iPhoneThe cheap ones are suffocating the sales of android phones cheap, according to a recent study by Counterpoint, based on the analysis of refurbished phones sold on global markets. We are talking about those refurbished phones that are sold by stores, not those sold by regular users, and in this market, iPhone and Samsung phones account for 75% of total sales.

iPhones are still much more sought after than any other cheap Android phones, and this is because refurbished Apple phones have much better prices than Android phones and offer much better performance. Customer interest in these refurbished smartphones is so high that the market itself grew by 13% in 2017 compared to 2016, while the market for new smartphones grew by only 3% in the last year.

The reasons why people choose to buy refurbished phones instead of new ones are multiple, but the lack of innovation in new smartphones seems to be in the foreground for the choices made. People are no longer willing to spend money on new phones without major functions, and when they look at refurbished phones, they mainly choose the iPhone, and only then do they start looking at Samsung Galaxy smartphones, the rest of the manufacturers having a much smaller share from this market.

"Apple and Samsung's dominance is more obvious in the refurb market than in the new smartphone market. The two brands combined hold close to three-fourths of the refurbished smartphone market, with Apple leading by a significant margin. Regions seeing the highest volume include the US and Europe. While the fastest growing markets for refurbs include Africa, SE Asia and India.”

Refurbished iPhones are preferred because they are much cheaper than new ones, and the performances offered are better than those of Android phones, they also benefit from much longer support from Apple. Of course, the market of refurbished smartphones is much smaller than that of new smartphones, but even so, Apple obtains substantial amounts from the sale of iPhones that have been used and returned to its stores.

Refurbished iPhones have prices at least 10% lower than new ones, but they offer the same experience and benefit from the warranty of a new product, so for many their choice is logical.
