Google announced last night the inclusion of native applications of the iOS operating system in the Advanced Protection Program, which it launched for its own services last year. Google launched this system to provide extreme protection for people who need the data in their accounts to always be safe, more precisely, journalists, dignitaries, public figures, or any person with data that must be strictly protected.

Google offers those who are part of the Advanced Protection Program the opportunity to secure their accounts using multiple authentication systems, including SMS, a physical authentication key, and not only that. Google limits the sharing of account data with third-party services, and in case of fraudulent account access, Google offers additional protection measures compared to what regular users of its services have.

Google has included in the Advanced Protection Program the native applications Mail, Calendar and Contacts available in iOS, so that now even iPhone users will be able to benefit from this advanced protection system. Google considers that even the users of the competing platform must protect their data from the existing accounts in its network, so starting today the protection of the Advanced Protection Program can be activated for Apple's applications as well, it existing in the native Google applications anyway.

"Our goal is to make sure that any user facing an increased risk of online attacks enrolls in the Advanced Protection Program," Dario Salice, Google's product manager for these services, writes. "Today, we've made it easier for our iOS users to be in the program, and we'll continue our work to make the program more easily accessible to users around the globe."

Google will definitely see an increase in the number of people who will want to benefit from advanced protection for their own account thanks to the Advanced Protection Program, but most likely those who wanted it, could use the company's mobile applications. Those from Apple have not yet thought of implementing such a system for iCloud users, but considering that Google has extended its protection in iOS, it is possible that Apple will offer something similar.
