Google announced yesterday a huge change for its platform, the American company finally understanding that it must intervene because phone and tablet users Android to have the best possible experience. Google has announced that it will ask the manufacturers of Android phones and tablets to release updates in a timely manner with the newest versions of the operating system, especially regarding security patches, which do not reach everyone when they should.
Google has not announced the companies that it will ask to do this for the Android terminals it sells, but we are certainly talking at least about the main manufacturers that sell tens, or hundreds, of millions of units annually worldwide. Google signs new contracts with Android terminal manufacturers to oblige them to provide users with regular updates, this seems to be the only solution to solve the problem.
Google Solves the MAJOR Problem of Android vs. iOS
Google mainly wants to make the Android platform safer for everyone, so Android updates regarding the functionality of the terminals are not included here, so many will still be left without them. Google releases monthly security updates for the Android operating system, but its partners offer them for phones only when they feel like it, so the change will force them to have due respect for the customers who buy their products.
"When you have billions of users, it's a big target. And so it deserves the strongest possible defense. We've also worked on building security patching into our OEM agreements. Now this will really lead to a massive increase in the number of devices and users receiving regular security patches."
Google knows that the fragmentation of Android is a huge problem and that if it does not solve at least the security part, the platform will always remain a victim in front of hackers who exploit its vulnerabilities. Google doesn't really have another solution at the moment, forcing Android terminal manufacturers to do exactly what is asked of them being the only solution to provide a better experience for customers all over the world.
