WhatsApp confirmed yesterday that any backup made by users through the Google Drive platform will not have encrypted messages, as is the case with those that are available on the company's servers. Those from WhatsApp do not offer explanations for the reasons why the encryption of the messages from the backups saved in Google Drive cannot be kept, but users must know that those data can be accessed at any time by anyone who has access to the backup.

WhatsApp also claims that the pictures are in the same situation, the American company not being able to protect the content of the backups as long as they are saved in Google Drive, so the users' data is at risk. We will probably find out why WhatsApp cannot create backups that are protected in Google Drive, but I have a vague impression that everything is part of the agreement that Facebook and Google made to store the information there for free.

Whatsapp also allows the use of other services to save backups, and if you do not have important information in the messaging application, then you can use Google Drive without any problems, which is a very good service, encrypted from the outside.
