Facebook today announced the launch of Portal and Portal+ smart speakers, the American company entering direct competition with Amazon Echo and Google Home, both of which have touch screens with 10-inch and 15-inch diagonals. Facebook announced Portal with a selling price of only 199 dollars, while Portal+ is sold by the American company at the price of 340 dollars, that is, very close to the price of the HomePod smart speaker.
Facebook announced that Portal, with a 10-inch diagonal screen, and Portal+, which has a 15-inch diagonal screen, are to be put on sale starting in November, at least in the US. Facebook has also integrated web cameras into its smart speakers to allow video calls, surprisingly the American company also integrated support for Amazon Alexa to provide voice commands for its customers.
Facebook has LAUNCHED Portal Smart Speakers
Facebook has implemented support for Facebook Messenger in Portal smart speakers, everything being thought to allow users to communicate with each other through video calls using this platform. Those from Facebook have also implemented a special software that tracks people's movements in front of the Portal smart speakers, no matter where they are in the room, and in terms of functionality, everything is similar to what is offered on mobile phones.
Facebook offers the resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels for Portal and 1920 x 1080 for Portal+, the speakers also have a subwoofer strong enough to reproduce the sounds as clearly as possible. Facebook will put the Portal and Portal+ smart speakers on sale in the US in November, but it is not yet known when these products will be offered, including in various other countries around the world, so it remains to be seen how successful they will be in the end.
