UBER announced today the launch also in Romania of a button for assistance 112 in the application, together with speed alerts, all part of a so-called Safety tool kit, which the company is launching globally. UBER wants to increase the safety of both drivers and passengers, so it decided to offer new methods by which they can ask for help in emergency situations, and by which they can warn drivers that they have an overly aggressive driving style.
- Help 112 button – By pressing it, passengers and drivers/couriers can connect directly with the emergency service
- Trusted contacts – passengers can now choose 5 friends or family members as “trusted contacts” and, with a single press of a button, share their ride details, which they can easily customize in the “Configure trusted contacts” section
- Safety Center – A new safety information hub where users find details about key safety features in the app, including information about 24/7 support service, driver and car details, GPS race tracking, rating and feedback system
- Speed alerts – An option that reminds drivers and couriers to keep a safe speed, within legal limits
UBER will allow passengers in cars to use a button for assistance 11, or button for assistance 112, as I think it should be the correct name, this allows the request for help from the competent authorities. UBER also allows you to select 5 trusted contacts to receive details about your ride, more precisely the GPS location of the car in relation to the location it needs to reach, something that is extremely useful for many people.

UBER will also offer insurance for drivers and couriers in Europe using the company AXA, this is a completely unexpected change for the company, but this eliminates the differences compared to taxis. Separately, it seems that UBER users and drivers can send a close person, probably separate from the 5 trusted contacts, information about the location and progress of the ride, so that another person knows that the driver or passengers are safe.
- AXA insurance for drivers – an insurance that provides protection to independent drivers and couriers in Europe for major life events such as illness, injury (when they use the Uber app but also when they are offline) or maternity/paternity leave
- "Submit Race Details" Option – drivers and users can share the location and progress of the ride with a nearby person
- Limiting driving hours – the option limits the hours a driver can spend in the Uber app to prevent drowsy driving. This means that after a driver uses the app for 12 hours, they are required to take an uninterrupted 6-hour break before they can use the app again
- Phone number anonymization – drivers and passengers will be able to call each other in the app, and phone numbers will remain private
UBER will also anonymize the phone numbers of passengers and drivers when they use the contact option in the application, those of the drivers being anonymized now also through the use of a switchboard. Those from UBER announced today all these news for drivers and customers from all over the world, but it is not clear when they will be available in the application, so I will let you know in a separate article when this will happen for everyone.
